The 12 Steps meet the 9 ways we get in our own way

From reaction
to response.

A fellowship for people who want to recognize the patterns that trap us in reaction—and grow our ability to respond with skillful intention.

Emotional sobriety is not the absence of feeling.
It is freedom within feeling.

When the pattern drives

Emotional
intoxication

Being captured by reactive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors—losing choice as a familiar pattern takes the wheel.

THE SHIFT

When awareness leads

Emotional
sobriety

The growing capacity to feel fully, see clearly, and choose a skillful response aligned with our deeper values.

A practical decoder ring

Nine patterns.
One way home.

Choose a number to see a common reactive loop—and a grounded practice that can help create space for a different response.

WHEN THE PATTERN TAKES OVER

THE RETURN PRACTICE

Come as you are

A simple circle.
A shared practice.

No expertise required. You don’t need to have your type figured out, and you don’t need previous 12-Step experience. Curiosity and a desire for change are enough.

“We practice progress rather than perfection on this journey from reaction to response.”

The heart of the work

Notice the pattern.
Recover your choice.

The Enneagram is a map of nine habitual strategies—not a box or a label. It helps us notice what we do automatically, especially under stress.

The Twelve Steps offer a lived path of honesty, willingness, repair, service, and connection. Together, these traditions give us language for the pattern and practices for loosening its grip.

01

Awareness before change

We cannot choose differently until we can see what is happening.

02

Experience over expertise

Your honest experience matters more than knowing every Enneagram term.

03

Fellowship over fixing

We offer presence and identification, not unsolicited advice.

Open hands, clear purpose

Shared freely.
Stewarded carefully.

Enneagram Anonymous is an emerging fellowship. We want its practices to be accessible while protecting the name, language, and spirit that hold the fellowship together.

01
Our foundational purposeWhat the name is here to serve

Enneagram Anonymous exists to help people grow in emotional sobriety by recognizing habitual patterns of reaction and cultivating the capacity to respond from grounded, skillful intention.

The name Enneagram Anonymous is held in stewardship for the fellowship and may not be used to promote commercial enterprises, professional services, political or religious causes, or teachings inconsistent with this primary purpose.

02
Personal & fellowship useHow our materials may be shared

Enneagram Anonymous encourages the free use and sharing of its designated fellowship materials for personal study and for voluntary, noncommercial Enneagram Anonymous meetings.

Materials may be printed, shared, and reproduced without charge when the wording is reproduced accurately and in full; the copyright and source notice remains attached; no fee is charged beyond reasonable direct costs; the material is not used to advertise or imply endorsement of therapy, coaching, certification, treatment, merchandise, or another organization; and any local additions or adaptations are clearly identified as local material rather than official Enneagram Anonymous literature.

Permission to reproduce fellowship materials does not grant ownership of, or unrestricted permission to use, the Enneagram Anonymous name or logo. Commercial publication, sale, substantial adaptation, translation, incorporation into training or certification programs, and use of the name or logo require written permission.

03
Local group principlesAutonomy joined with responsibility

Local Enneagram Anonymous groups are autonomous in their meeting practices, except in matters affecting other groups or the fellowship as a whole. A group may identify itself as an Enneagram Anonymous group when it:

  • supports the fellowship’s primary purpose;
  • welcomes participants without requiring payment, professional affiliation, or adherence to a particular religion or Enneagram school;
  • respects anonymity and confidentiality;
  • does not endorse outside enterprises or causes;
  • distinguishes local opinions and materials from fellowship-wide positions; and
  • does not use the Enneagram Anonymous name for private commercial benefit.
04
Confidentiality & careA peer fellowship, not professional treatment

Anonymity and confidentiality are spiritual foundations of our fellowship, but no meeting or website can guarantee that every participant will preserve confidentiality. Participants are asked not to disclose another person’s identity or personal sharing outside the meeting.

Enneagram Anonymous provides peer fellowship and spiritual-development resources. It does not provide psychotherapy, medical care, diagnosis, crisis intervention, or professional treatment, and it is not a substitute for those services.
